HOLYWOOD TREE PLANTING INITIATIVE IN FULL LEAF
Holywood Conservation Group, working in partnership with Town Centre Management and local businesses to improve streetscapes, is pleased to announce that its initiative to plant new trees in Holywood has borne fruit.
Nearly £20,000 has been raised to date from local businesses for the purchase, planting and protection of ornamental pear trees along Holywood’s main arterial routes - Shore Road, Church Road and High Street.
Town Centre Management Board Member, Alderman Ellie McKay, welcomed the initiative. “This is where partnership, a lot of effort and goodwill from the private sector can make an immediate difference to the local environment. I must commend everyone involved in making this project a success and I would like to see the scheme adopted by other local businesses in Holywood.”
Deirdre Thomas, chair of Holywood Conservation Group, thanked local business owners, HCG volunteers, DRD Roads Service, Belfast City Council tree experts and Town Centre Management for their efforts with the scheme. “It just goes to show that with a little imagination and willingness of local businesses to support our scheme, together with generous help and assistance from DRD, Town Centre Management and others, that this environmental project has proved so successful.”
Local businesses that contributed to the Holywood town centre tree-planting scheme include:
There have also been a number of private donations to the scheme.
