The Jamaica Inn 188 Seacliff Road, Bangor, 028 9147 1610
Run by husband and wife team Dave and Michelle Harding since 2004 they have set about establishing the Jamaica Inn as something different. Dave is a qualified chef who previously worked in Tattoo in Belfast and Michelle is a former marketing consultant
Set in a picturesque location, in the summer it is the perfect place to have a peaceful drink watching the time pass by. In the winter the roaring fire brings a cosy ambience which is difficult to match.
In the two years they have been in charge, the couple have introduced a number of changes. The menus have been spiced up with a new early bird menu available and they have introduced a variety of seafood dishes to compliment some of the more traditional bar food. The legendary quiz night is still held on a Tuesday evening and along with wine tasting events there is live music on Friday and Saturday nights and throughout the summer on a Sunday.
Finalist in the 2006 Best Public House Category of the Bangor Business Awards, Michelle and Dave were delighted just to be nominated as it gave recognition to their staff for all their hard work and dedication, a number of them have participated in a Welcome Host course in NDAI.
Being your own boss has been a learning curve for the couple with every day being different and the satisfaction of hearing positive feedback from customers has made it all worth while.
