TOWN CENTRE MANAGEMENT - HANGING BASKET SCHEME

Bangor & Holywood Town Centre Management will once again be running its very popular Hanging Basket scheme in both Bangor and Holywood this year.  Any businesses wishing to participate should contact us by email or phone 028 9147 9651.

This year Holywood has qualified for the 2008 All Ireland Best Kept Town Award, having won the Medium Sized Small Town in the Northern Ireland Amenity Council 2007 Supervalu Best Kept Award Scheme in 2007.  Bangor came 2nd in Large Town category in the 2007 Ulster in Bloom competition, having won it in 2005.

Whilst 2007 was one of the worst summers on record the Ulster in Bloom competition judges commented that many places had "very successfully harnessed the interest and efforts of the local community with stunning results, very effectively increasing the value of the local properties, whilst decreasing the scourge of litter and vandalism. 

Ulster in Bloom judges were particularly impressed by "the recently planted street trees throughout Holywood town centre which gave an almost continental appearance and will become even better in years to come."  The judges also suggested that whilst it "was good to see that a number of traders had hanging baskets, maybe more will follow suit which will make a huge impact and have Holywood as a "must see" place."

In Bangor judges commented that "commercial property frontages are improving and it is noticeable that businesses in all areas are florally enhancing their premises.  This is an excellent sign."  They also noted that "one can see a definite improvement throughout Bangor.  This is particularly so in the provision of floral enhancements everywhere in the town.  A view held by judges states that Bangor knows where it wants to go.  When achieved benefits will accrue not only to those who live in the town but also to an increasing number of visitors and holiday makers."
