UK, targeting support with rates to help revitalise businesses throughout
Northern Ireland.

(Amendment) Bill which is currently passing through the Assembly. This
change will provide a major incentive for getting empty shops occupied and
back into business.

Petition against the closure of Holywood PSNI station

Councillors in North Down have launched a petition against the proposal to close Holywood Police Station that was announced as part of the PSNI’s Estates Strategy.

They are urging ratepayers across the Borough to sign the petition, which demands that the PSNI take immediate action to reconsider the proposal and to retain the Police Station in Holywood.  This is based on the premise that the closure would have a devastating effect on public confidence, wellbeing and security.

You can sign the petition against closure of Holywood Police Station online by using the link.  The petition is also available for signing at Queen’s Leisure Complex, Redburn Community Centre and Gordon Dunne MLA’s Advice Centre (8 Church Road) in Holywood and at the Town Hall in Bangor.

2011 Town Centre Christmas Overview

As the post-Christmas sales filter out it’s clear that no clear picture will emerge giving a consistent overview of how festive trading has been in Bangor and Holywood. The reduction in consumer spend has played a significant role, and 2011 also saw the internet come into full maturity. UK online sales grew from £12.7 billion to £15.9 billion from January to August and at the same time shoppers in the High Street reduced by 2.3%. A number of national multiples are also now experiencing the challenge of facing up to historic debt. Despite strong local trading certain companies are going to close. Already the Flagship Centre has seen a number close their doors and other multiples will follow. Many independents may not be able to ride such a tide of change.
