The StreetSafe programme funded by North Down Community Safety Partnership has been developed in partnership with a range of statutory and voluntary based organisations within North Down.
The StreetSafe programme funded by North Down Community Safety Partnership has been developed in partnership with a range of statutory and voluntary based organisations within North Down. The programme founded on a growing body of evidence, seeks to engage with young people who now prefer to meet and socialise at street level rather than through established youth provision.
Streetsafe seeks to:
Strategic Objectives:
- To reduce anti-social behaviour, the risk of youth offending and the fear of crime of local residents through the implementation of a Partnership led Roaming Youth outreach engagement Service.
- To reduce the vulnerability of young people at street level from becoming involved in risk taking behaviour and increasing awareness amongst the target groups of available support services.
Programme Objectives:
- To reduce levels of antisocial behaviour and risk taking behaviour amongst young people across hotspot areas of North Down through a process of on-street engagement, referral to established youth provision and diversionary activities.
- To develop partnership led intelligence based response to the management of ASB in hotspot area in North Down.
- To reduce the fear of crime in hotspot areas particularly amongst residents through the “displacement” of on-street youths to other “agreed” on-street locations.
- To undermine the historical weak link between health and social care support agencies and young people in relation to key information and support services.
- To offer a mobile geographical response to areas identifies as requiring the support of the Streetsafe programme.
- For the Streetsafe serviced programme to offer intelligence led response service.
- To act as an important resource in support of existing community based youth and development workers.
Operational Programme
The Streetsafe programme will principally operate at weekend periods from 7pm to 3am Friday to Sunday supported by a team of three workers.
Streetsafe will be used in a variety of contexts to advance key messages around community safety e.g. schools programme, work around drug and alcohol abuse.
Intelligence led approach.
The programme will be working alongside PSNI Community Policing Teams/NDBC Enforcement/ SEELB youth Workers/ Community associations, FASA, NDYMCA and local neighbourhood watch schemes.

- LCD Flat screen TV, wii computer games
