Local toy retailer, Stewart Miller has scooped two major industry awards at the British Toy and Hobby Association’s Toy Industry Awards in London, it was announced this week. The family owned business won ‘Large Toy Retailer of the Year in the UK and Ireland’ and was also awarded ‘Overall UK and Ireland Toy Retailer of the Year’.

Bangor based Stewart Miller, which has been a family business for almost sixty years and operated under the Toymaster brand, was shortlisted with well known toy retailers including the Disney Store, Argos, Asda and the Early Learning Centre. The toy retailer was nominated for the award by established toy makers Lego and Playmobil.

Stephen Miller, Managing Director of Stewart Miller said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won these awards. We were surprised when we were first told of our nomination and never expected to win one award let alone two, especially as we were up against a number of national toy retailers.

“Despite the current economic climate Stewart Miller has had a very successful year and we have invested in refurbishing two of our stores – Abbey Centre and Newtownards. We have a very loyal customer base and often parents who remember the excitement of coming to Stewart Millers as a child now bring their children to our stores to buy their toys. It is these customers who have helped us grow and win awards such as these.”

Roger Dyson, Chairman of the British Toy and Hobby Association, said: "My congratulations go to all the retailers taking home awards, in particular Stewart Miller who won Toy Retailer of the Year 2009. You have to be a very special retailer to win this award - one that not only offers an excellent range of toys and a pleasant consumer environment but also the highest standards of customer service."

Stewart Miller Toymaster has four stores located in Newtownards, Bangor, Holywood and the Abbeycentre, as well as a large warehouse.
