HOLYWOOD GLAMOUR 08

Nearly 200 people attended the debut Glamour 08 event in Holywood on Friday 20th June.  Interior design company Herbert Gould dramatically transformed Holywood’s Queen’s Hall for the evening’s luxury garden party-themed fashion and lifestyle extravaganza. Guests enjoyed an exquisite champagne and canapé reception on arrival (sponsored by The Attik Café Bar & Bistro and The Bay Tree) and took time to view the various exhibits from Little Leaf, Bebe, Pumpkin Pie and Urban Orchard as well as art exhibitions by Charles Gilmore, The Yard Gallery and Holywood’s newest art establishment, the Whalley Gallery.

The highlight of the evening was the Milan-style runway show, which was staged by Maureen Martin and incorporated the cream of the town’s fashion. This kicked off with Holywood’s very own specialist vintage store, Previously Loved.  Other boutiques included Artiqua, RoCo, The Bridal Suite, Chocolat, Red Ruby Rouge and eyewear specialists R A Glass and Mackey Opticians.  Models were styled by Patrick Mulholland Hair, Holywood.

Over 20 lucky guests received a variety of sumptuous ballot prizes, donated by a number of local businesses. The evening finished off with a scrumptious Pimms & dessert reception (courtesy of Diageo and Knotts Bakery).  All guests received an eco-friendly Holywood Glamour tote bag filled with lots of indulgent goodies, many of which have since been seen ‘toted’ on Holywood’s shopping thoroughfares.

The event, which was jointly sponsored by First Trust Bank, Holywood Chamber of Commerce, Bangor & Holywood Town Centres Ltd, Priory Press, floralearth, Ulster Bank and Northern Bank, was held in aid of Breast Cancer Care and Camphill Holywood.  In kind donations were also gratefully received from IKEA, Queen’s Hall Leisure Complex, Thursday’s Child, Esporta, Fontana, Yard Café, HiJump Design Consultancy, Richmond Marketing NI, La Cucina, Centra, Head to Toe, Ingrid Darragh, Sarah B Design, Tadhg Morgan, Cosmetech Clinics, Ingrid Darragh, B&Q, Centra, Sportscrest and the Bedlam Ballroom.

“Christmas closes and the New Year begins for our town centres”

With the close of 2007, analysts and accountants are busy measuring the success of Christmas. Individual companies will make industry comparisons and shareholders will decide what to sell and what to buy. Within retailing, which is the critical mass of businesses represented in a town centre, Christmas is a very significant period and can make or break a business.
